220. Paraty, Brazil

In about 300 km to the west from Rio de Janeiro on the Atlantic coast there’s a real masterpiece – small colonial town ParatyThis town remained the same after its construction in the middle of the 17th century and considered by UNESCO a very important architectural monument. Now  in these “toy” bright buildings you will find beautiful romantic restaurants, hotels and just lovely souvenir and design shops. And don’t forget to walk on ancient streets, huging somebody you love and imagining that you came here by a time machine.

216. Cartagena, Colombia

This city exceeded our expectations in beauty.  It’s an old colonial city and UNESCO world heritage site.  Wandering these beautiful streets and looking at the churches and architecture is breath taking.  You can sit upon the walls of the old city and have a drink and enjoy the view below - but even more romantic is watching the sun rise/set amongst these pastel colonial buildings.  Do this every chance you get in this town.  (downside - cruises stop here therefore you run into very aggressive locals trying to sell you things and very overpriced restaurants… but if you make an effort to find more out of the way places it’s worth it (and they’re there))

197. Easter Island, Chile

Large stone head statues on an island about the size of Wisconsin probably wouldn’t be considered romantic, but think again. Most remote place in the world, a picturesque view of the Pacific Ocean, some of the bluest skies you will ever see, mysterious Moai statues, and the wonderful Rapa Nui people(Island locals) puts Easter Island at the top of my list for romantic places.
