Wow, this place is just breath-taking. A picturesque lake nestled within the snow-capped mountains. In the middle of this lake is an island on the island is a castle - exploring this place can make for a totally romantic day. You can hike around the lake and take a traditional wooden boat (called a Pletna) out to the island where you can explore the castle area, see lots of great views and even visit a winery - does it get any more romantic than that? Not for me it doesn’t. There is also great hiking and rafting in the area.

Among the mountains of Julian Alps runs the river Soca, close to the Slovenian/Italian border. A half an hour drive from Italy can take you to the valley which is a paradise for outdoor freaks and nature lovers, with a breath-taking scenery to the surrounding mountains. The Soca river has a unique bluish greenish color that changes depending on the seasons and the amount of water coming down from the mountains. If you ever take trip here it is worth a weak not only to discover the outdoor activities such as white water rafting, canyoning or via ferrata, but great to explore the magical area by bicycle and simply enjoy the atmosphere of the valley by visiting local bars and cafes. A one hour drive takes you to the highest mountains in the country. An outstandingly beautiful peak. Triglav offers an easy way up via a two-day trip. Winter days also offer the possibility of discovering a fairy tale, it is not by accident that one of “The chronicles of Narnia” was shot here a few years ago.

There is something very romantic about bridges, and Ljubljana has bridges. A lot of bridges. In fact, Ljubljana’s main attractions are bridges, a castle… and not much else. This is not meant as a slight; quite the opposite. Ljubljana is the rare European capital where the main attraction is the ambiance, and the city, itself. With charm and simplicity, Ljubljana is immediately relaxing, refreshing and romantic.
I went with two buddies, but this is how I imagine the conversation going between a couple: “Wait, so there are no must-see museums here? No churches either? So… we just get to do whatever we want? Awesome. Not to get all ‘long-walks-on-the-beach’ on you, but I was thinking we could take another stroll across that one bridge and then that other bridge and, I don’t know, maybe smooch or something. Sound good?” Indeed it does, imaginary person I invented. Indeed it does.
