229. Christmas market, Royal Mews, Stockholm Sweden

SUBMITTED BY:  Erik K.

There’s something kinda magical about the Christmas season isn’t there?  Not always ‘romantic’ magical but magical nonetheless.  There’s always an exception though because in the case of the Royal Mews Christmas Market in Stockholm, Christmas somehow retains it’s magic with an air of romance sprinkled in.  Maybe it’s the beautiful buildings that the market is sits within, maybe it’s the cobblestone square… maybe it’s the ancient feel of the market stands or the gourmet food and trinkets to buy, taste and play with.  I’m not sure what it is exactly but if you happen to be in Stockholm during the christmas season and you want a romantic, memorable evening this is a can’t miss spot.

161. Toco Beach, Trinidad

Toco beach, located in Trinidad is one of the prettiest beaches I’ve ever seen. This place exudes romanticism and pure bliss. With its coral reef sitting a few feet out, overlooking the beach, swimming out with your lover is the perfect opportunity for an intimate moment. Living in Trindad was one of the greatest things I’ve ever done. I would definitely recommend this place as the perfect get away…sweet escape.

152. The Blasket Islands off the coast of Ireland

SUBMITTED BY: http://lizflinn.tumblr.com/

The Blasket Islands are a group of islands off the coast of the Dingle Peninsula in Ireland.  On these islands there are no roads, no trees, only a handful of uninhabited houses, and fascinating history.  The Great Blasket (the main island in the group) is a very romantic place to take a picnic lunch or snack and lounge around in the grass and eat.  Then hike up to the top of the hill and take in the breathtaking views.  This is the most unique place I have ever been, and it’s a great place to experience with someone you love.

Niagara Falls, Canada

Niagara Falls!!** Honeymoon capital, the falls are soo gorgeous and breathtaking. During the day, you can stand right at the brink, or take the Maid of the Mist boat ride into the mist. During the nighttime powerful Xenon lights illuminate both the Canadian horseshoe falls and the American falls in many different colours. Along with the waters beauty, fireworks happen 3 nights a week in the summer time where many couples like to cuddle on the beautiful grounds to watch. Horse and carriage rides are completely romantic and travel alongside the water, right to the falls. The falls leads to class 6 rapids, which is one of the most dangerous in the world. The Niagara gorge is a romantic place to go for a hike with your lover as you marvel at the beauty of the nature surrounding you. And I’m lucky enough to live and work in this environment each and every day ! : )

** This post is not numbered as we have featured Niagra Falls in the past, but it’s a great spot to revisit!**

146. Jinja, Uganda

SUBMITTED BY: http://joyfulsoul.tumblr.com/

Jinja is Uganda’s second largest city and has many thrilling adventures you and your partner can experience together.  The streets are filled with vibrant colors of the different fabrics, trinkets and food.  Western cafes and restaurants dot the streets.  Just outside of the city there are different luxury resorts suited for couples to relax by the pool and enjoy the hot African sun.  Jinja is also located by Lake Victoria, the source of the Nile River.  You and your significant other can go out onto the lake on a boat for a romantic time.  Also, different agencies offer river rafting packages on the Nile.  What better way is there to get closer to your lover than a thrilling ride down the rapids of the Nile together?

All in all the views and colors offered by this beautiful city will leave you breathless and wanting to come back

145. Amanpulo, Palawan, Philippines

Amanpulo, Palawan, Philippines: A private island in the midst of sparkling blue waters, with velvet white sands. Where stars shine like diamonds in the night sky. It’s one of the most romantic places we’ve been to because of the total peace and tranquility. Spending time away from the hustle and bustle of the city with your loved one in nature is priceless.

105. Greystoke Mahale, (Lake Tanganyika) Tanzania, Africa

SUBMITTED BY:  http://picturepictureraja.tumblr.com/

I’ve been trying to put into words how romantic Lake Tanganyika is, because this tumblr is called 1,000 Most Romantic Places in the World, not 1,000 Most Awesome Places in the World, and I do not take that distinction lightly. With that said, Lake Tanganyika is my favorite place that I’ve ever been, but not for necessarily romantic reasons. I stayed at Greystoke Mahale, and each day consisted of trekking for chimps, chasing hippos up streams, and fishing for fresh sashimi. If that sounds too stressful, there is a beautiful - and empty - beach right in front of each banda. In the morning, the staff brings you fresh fruit and juice, unless you take too long getting out of bed; at that point, the vervet monkeys will have already eaten your fruit. Basically, Mahale is my idea of paradise.

So where does the romance begin? I guess with the sunsets. And the isolation. And, again, the beach. And the fact that any paradise is inherently romantic, because there is nothing you’d rather do than spend your entire life right there with the person you love, and isn’t that love in a nutshell?

88. Coromandel, New Zealand

In typical New Zealand fashion, Coromandel is an exquisite combination of different landscapes in a small area.  Quaint countryside meets, ocean.  Karst topography, caves and beaches will blow you away with their beauty.  Wander through the surrounding town, play a game of rugby on the beach, have a picnic, watch the sunset.  This place is so unusual and so beautiful - a perfect landscape to explore with a loved one.

80. Kelimutu, Flores, Indonesia

Not an easy destination to get to from Bali (this took over 2 days).  Arriving in the small village of Moni is a great relief.  Wake up early in the morning (around 4am) and take a truck to Kelimutu.  This is an amazing sight to behold and something really special to share with a loved one.  There are three volcanic lakes all different colors (these images are not enhanced, the colors are unbelievable) black, chocolate and turquoise.  Take in the spectacular view as the sun rises and know you are one of the few people on Earth who have seen this site.

78. Mellé, France

SUBMITTED BY: http://castlesintheskies.tumblr.com/

I visited France for the first time last week and stayed in a small cottage in Mellé. I instantly fell in love with the idyllic countryside and old farm houses. The area is really quiet and romantic and the surrounding towns are beautiful with their traditional old world buildings.
