Romantic Places is a travel blog but more specifically it is a collection of the most romantic places in the world... anything from the urban streets of your city to an obscure island thousands of miles away. We'd love to hear your most romantic place.

Cabo San Lucas, is a picturesque town in Mexico. The town itself is set within a gorgeous landscape of ocean, mountains, and fantasticl landforms. This is a place of deep sea fishing, whale watching, snorkeling, dune-buggy-ing… pretty much any vacation activity you can think of. We stayed at and insanely luxurious resort called Capella Pedregal. This place is breathtaking with fantastic views, beautiful plantings and sand-scaping. Some of the most fabulous seafood on Earth and cocktails that taste like candy. On top of this there is also a world class spa here. This is a spot of honeymoons and destination weddings - as well as lounging at the pool sipping margaritas and eating ceviche. What more do you need for romance?

It is very possible that you’ll fall in love with the city itself more than any one person you might meet in Rio de Janeiro. (Although the cariocas as a whole are so warm, hospitable, and sexy that they’re also a major reason you’ll fall in love with the place.) I’m sure there are few places in the world with as much unique beauty and vibrant culture packed into one major city. You’ve got beautiful mountains and neoclassical colonial architecture to the north and miles of white sandy beaches to the south. There is live music (and sometimes, traffic-stopping capoeira) on every street—day or night. The beach culture is very unique. It is where people socialize very easily. Imagine a place where the sunset creates a golden glow across the water every evening, and finishes with applause at the end of each day.
As far as romance is concerned, you should expect something a bit more along the lines of lust. Carioca men are much more openly passionate and overtly romantic (albeit superficially) than their North-American counterparts. Romance is on everyone’s mind, but it’s very hard not to be when the weather’s hot and people don’t wear much clothing. Even the most prudish girl may find it hard to resist that tall, tanned, chiseled hunk on the beach (which seems to be the generic look for many of them). If you ever do get the opportunity to go on a date with said tall, tanned, chiseled hunk and he takes you to dinner with live bossa jazz music by the lake with perfect views of Corcovado mountain; then to a secluded beach (Urca) where he whispers the cheesiest lines you’ve ever heard, just consider yourself lucky. It’s even possible to go on a romantic/sexy date every single day of the week with a different boy if you want! Rio is a very looks-oriented, sensual place and I highly recommend every girl experience a romantic fling (or ten) there at some point in her life—but preferably in her early to mid-twenties when her butt still looks good! ;)

Even if you’re not looking for a date, you can’t help but feel ‘romantic’ about the city itself for all its visual and cultural splendor. For music to get you into the vibe of Rio—whether for romance or just plain relaxation; no matter where you are—I recommend the bossa nova albums Getz/Gilberto by Joao Gilberto, Stan Getz, and Antonio Carlos Jobim (a classic!) and Natural by Celso Fonseca.
P.S. I don’t think my description or pictures can do it justice, but I hope this was inspiring! :)

Humbly pointing towards our own little corner of the world, Damai in North Bali…an organic retreat with private villas, breezy pavilions and views of Java’s distant volcanoes. You can’t help but fall in love amongst these stunning views pampering amenities.

Visiting Fairbanks Alaska in the winter is not the first thing that comes to mind for most people looking for romance, but it IS for some Japanese (who consider it a honeymoon destination) and I understand why. Cozy inns with roaring fires, nearby hot-springs, a winter wonderland and most important the Aurora Borealis (the northern lights). It’s amazing when it fills up the sky and who can’t help feeling romance when watching something so awe-inspiring.

I went for a weekend getaway recently and fell in love with the place. Despite its very high concentration of elderly citizens, Naples is one of the most beautiful places I have been too. The beach is white and sandy, the water is warm and inviting, and the sun is absolutely perfect. Watching the sun set into the ocean is a must-do. Wandering around the downtown area and having a romantic lunch is another. Most nights, the sky is perfectly clear for star-gazing, preferably with a bottle of champagne in the hot tub! It’s peaceful enough for couples who want to just enjoy each other’s company, but close enough to fort myers so nightlife isn’t too far away.

For 4 days, I get the chance to explore this undeveloped and irresistable place. Zambales province offers long, straight sections of undeveloped beach against a backdrop of rugged mountains. From the rest house where my friends and I were staying, I watched the sky as it changes from its magnificent glory during the day til to its silent, solemnity at twilight. You don’t have to be out-of-the-way just to have Mother Nature at your hands. The quiet fishing village has a good beach at its own right. It may look less appealing when the sun goes down but an exciting adventurous event to look forward to in the morrow.

I went to Rwanda as well as Nairobi, Kenya with my boyfriend for Christmas of 2009. It was the most amazing and romantic thing I’ve done in my life, I don’t think anything can top it. We walked through town in Kigali and saw street vendors, beautiful flowers, and people. Hiking through the mountains (one main mountain that sits in Rwanda, Uganda and the Congo) and seeing gorillas within 10 feet of us was such an amazing thing to share with my boyfriend. The wilderness and the amazing wildlife we saw makes it irreplaceable. We went to Nairobi and stayed in the private gates of the same resort featured in Out of Africa, the Muthagia Country Club. Going on a safari and kissing a giraffe; all of these memories will always e thought of fondly. I have personal photos at: Www.chelseaeliz.tumblr.com

***Even if I had to say anything to sell the romance and the mystery of the Sahara desert, I don’t think I could find the words. Most big cities in Eastern/Southern Morocco are the starting point for a journey like this and many hotels in places such as Marrakech or Essaouira will organize and plan everything for you.
An overland journey to Merzouga, the ever-changing Moroccan landscape speeding by with stops for mint tea in tiny village kasbahs and picking fresh rosemary in the High Atlas mountains, before a two-hour camel trek to a camp in the middle of the desert. Sleep under the clearest sky you’ve ever seen, count the shooting stars and trek back during sunrise. Need I say more?
