232. Mosel Valley (Cochem to Beilstein) Germany

SUBMITTED BY:  Eric M.

Mosel Valley is a river valley part of which runs through Germany.  The valley is speckled with picturesque towns… Cochem and it’s upstream neighbor Beilstein, are two of the towns.  Cochem is more bustling and touristy and Beilstein more quiet (without grocery stores or ATMS - at least when we were there).  You can bike between the towns, they are only 7 miles apart.  Both of these places are picturesque, perhaps Beilstein moreso.  They are places of hiking and bike rides and river boats.  They are towns of castles, fabulous architecture, wineries and winding cobblestone streets.   It is very romantic to spend the day together in such beautiful surroundings where wine and beer flow so freely and the views are free and plentiful.

231. Heaven Lake (天池), China

Heaven Lake is a crater lake in China on the border of China and North Korea.  This lake nestled amongst a stunning mountain range is visually fabulous and makes for a great romantic, active getaway.  Grab your sweetie and hike the trails or go on horseback.  There is overnight accommodation in canvas yurts (there were also high-end hotels in the area).  It is rumored that this lake is home to the Lake Tianchi Monster which apparently takes the form of a buffalo with fins that lives in the lake so… watch out!

213. Wanaka, New Zealand

Set amongst rolling hills, a picturesque lake and a mountainous backdrop the town of Wanaka is about as breath taking as they come.  I was here a long time ago (over ten years ago) so I don’t know how much it might have changed but when I visited it was lovely and quiet and laid back - especially in comparison to it’s neighboring city Queenstown.  This is a place of beautiful hiking, breath-taking views and water sports coupled with delicious restaurants and cafes.  It’s easy to fall in love here - an idyllic little spot.

212. Great Sand Dunes National Park, Colorado - US

The drive to this place alone is stunning but the sand-dunes themselves… they feel like one of the most magical places on Earth.  Grab your girl/guy and scramble up these huge dunes, they’re beautiful - full of patterns and shadows set within a mountainous backdrop.  A sunrise/sunset in this spot is as great as you could hope for.  Being wowed by natural landscapes with someone special is crazy romantic to me.

207. The archipelago of Loften, Norway

SUBMITTED BY: http://rayzofsunshine.tumblr.com/

The archipelago of Lofoten in Norway is north of the Arctic Circle.  Yet throughout the year it has temperatures which belie its position. This is because of the largest positive temperature anomaly in the world relative to latitude. It makes Lofoten an unexpected delight – its early settlers must have thought they had stumbled across an arctic paradise.

Prepare to have your breath taken away.

What they found there was a sea teaming with life and the largest deep water coral reef in the word.  There are literally millions of sea birds with many species represented, such as the sea eagle, the cormorant and the puffin.  Otter are common in the area and on the larger islands of the archipelago there are moose.

Loften is really well known for its natural beauty which seems to have not become global.. yet. A lot of the mountain peaks look like they came out of a movie or novel, something like the the hobbit. The romance here is found in its deep natural beauty.

There are some sandy beaches here but there is a danger from the tides.  The temperatures are not that warm here, -1.5C to 13C (average, the highest they’ve ever had was 30.4 C) in the summer but for being so far North this is incredibly impressive! (plus the cold weather will allow for some cuddle time with your honey!)

The place is so far north that here you can experience the midnight sun.  From May 26 – July 17 the sun in above the horizon for twenty four hours a day.  The midnight sun gives ample and extra opportunities such as climbing and canoeing (or sea kayaking).  There are also cycle paths which connect many of the local communities and road traffic is generally light. In fact there is an annual Lofoten Insomnia Race for cyclists which takes place along the whole archipelago to take advantage of the midnight sun

Overall, I found it to be a really beautiful place full of undiscovered beauty and quite a bit of mystery. I’d recommend it to anyone!

Whistler, Canada

SUBMITTED BY: http://sirelfboy.tumblr.com/

*Whistler Canada is a mountain that some people call Blackcomb because it’s neighboring mountain. Its a ski resort but there is also a little town that has many different restaurants and shops as well as nearby hiking. Its really romantic cause there is soooo much snow and its always nice to go out on the deck with your loved one with a blanket and sit there with each other snuggling and such.

*post not numbered as we have already featured Whistler - but we like repeats*

196. Multnomah Falls, Portland - USA

The images of this place almost say enough… magical wilderness, streams, a stone bridge and a stunning waterfall.  What a great romantic date!  There are trails in the area - you can see the bottom of the falls, you can go up on the stone bridge or even hike up to the top of the falls.  There’s also an ice cream shop and a restaurant on the grounds with stunning views, perfect right?

Native American folklore says Multnomah Falls were created for the sole purpose of winning the heart of a princess who longed for a hidden place to bathe… lucky princess!

195. Banff, Canada

Many years ago, when I was traveling in Asia, I met a dream-blue-collar man from Canada.  I remember he told me he lived near Lake Louise and made snow at a ski resort in Banff.  We had a great 3 day affair and then I left the country.  7 years later my parents invited me to Banff with them.  How could I refuse?  This area is magnificent - the views are so beautiful they seem unreal.  This is a place of skiing and skating, of hiking and camping and boating, of luxury resort stay and fine food - there is a beautiful hotel nestled in the mountains with hot springs and music and dancing. Not romantic with my parents but in my mind it would have been so wonderful with him.  I kept thinking I saw him everywhere but upon getting a closer look I was mistaken.  Our paths never crossed again - at least not yet - it doesn’t stop this place from being totally special.  Which it is.
