239. Kitzbühel, Austria

Kitzbühel is a huge region for skiing in Austria, but as you can see it is simply a gorgeous area year round.  The beauty here is breathtaking.  You can plan so many romantic getaways in this place from skiing to hiking to mountain biking or on a more mellow note you can wander the area, take pictures, dine and one of the countless restaurants/cafes.  This is just a really lovely area - a great romantic spot.

215. Dining at a Buschenshank in Austria

What’s a buschenshank you might be asking (pronounced boo-shen-shonk)? I discovered these in Austria and they were one of the highlights of my trip.  They are farms/wineries/restaurants where owners serve products grown only on their own land without having to pay any restaurant license fees.  So you are eating food fresh off the farm - generally cheese, vegetables, dried meats and rich brown bread - it is criminally delicious.  The views range from quaint to breathtaking and the wine flows freely in these places.  It was incredibly romantic to dine in these establishments overlooking the farmland and watching the sunset over the fields.  I don’t think my description has done it justice, you’ve got to check it out for yourself.

110. Graz, Austria

What a quaint, fun, European spot.  Graz is a young city, home to six universities with a beautifully preserved old city center.  Filled with old government buildings, churches, cafes and bars, roaming these streets with a loved one is amazing.  You can also drive a short ways out of town to an area filled with vineyards and buschenschank’s (wine cellars that serve their wine directly to the public and offer seasonal, regional food).

37. Salzburg, Austria

Who didn’t grow up watching, ‘The Sound of Music’?  OK, maybe I’m dating myself, but you should watch the movie before you go.  What a lovely city - old mixing with modern - this place has a really sweet vibe to it.  Wandering along the streets, down the river is a great way to spend the day.  There are beautiful churches and towers and a fortress hovering above the city.  Somewhere amongst the winding roads of Salzburg is a monastery that brews beer, park yourself in that beer hall for a hell of a good time! :)

3. Vienna, Austria

Somewhere between the beautifully decrepit architecture and the cobblestone alleyways lies a city that transports you back to the 1700’s when Mozart and Beethoven walked these streets.  An afternoon of holding hands with someone and strolling through this capital is as picturesque a day as one could imagine.  Also the sachertorte and some espresso could get just about anyone in the mood.
