35. Dieng Plateu, Central Java, Indonesia
Dieng Plateau, is a marshy plateau at the foot of an active volcano in Central Java, Indonesia.
The name “Dieng” comes from the word Di Hyang which means “Abode of the Gods”. Dieng Plateau is located almost 2000 m above sea level. This romantic spot is shrouded in mist. Poisonous effusions and sulfur-colored lakes make it an important spot for religious tribute. It is covered with temples and small shrines dedicated to Shiva.
Romance, peace, and beauty are words that represent this place. There is also a nice Lake in the area: Telaga Warna (turquoise in color from the sulfur) and many caves in the area, oftentimes occupied by people meditating. These people meditate up to months without eating or drinking. Don’t get scared and don’t disturb them.
